Neuroaffirmation

Is VERVE Neuroaffirmative?

TUNING IN TO AND LEARNING FROM INDIVIDUALITY AND DIVERSITY.

Adult-reflection and the *neurodiversity paradigm are at the heart of VERVE. It is based on curiosity in and affirmation of everyone’s uniqueness.

THE VIDEO:

Ensures that:

In partnership, the adults tune in to the detail of how each child is experiencing and reacting to things and organising their own body, behaviours and interactions, moment by moment.

The adults are made aware of the intuitive skills they naturally use in their interactions with each child, as defined by the literature.

Each child is provided with organisation time and responses (actions, gestures, words,) that synchronise with and value, respect and build on each child’s blossoming skills.

The child provides and draws from others what they need and when they need it.

Environmental factors and communication modes are specifically adapted in response to the individual to ensure understanding, support and inclusion.

Each therapy session is entirely child/adult specific, integrating the information and experience shared by key adults and building on the evidence seen in each new video.

Helps us in understanding:

Regulation and co-ordination as the springboard to health, well-being, physical development, communication, language, learning, independence and autonomy.

How each child conveys when they are feeling regulated and co-ordinated, how they regulate and support themselves through feelings of being overwhelmed/dysregulated.

The impact our own adult energy/regulation has moment by moment on the individual child (and people in general).

When a child wants time to focus and organise versus when they are seeking input (actions/language/support) from us.

What the child is asking for and telling us when they are ‘not face watching’. Reinforcing the child’s right and ability to manage others in reading their clear signals of invitation and termination.
